EXPLORE MAUI IN ONE OF OUR

EQUIPPED SUV CAMPERS

WELCOME to Epic Maui Camping! We are Sean and Cecilie and we have run this little business together for almost 7 years with great passion and a lot of coffee. We love what we do and we think we've gotten pretty good at it! You are renting a humble vehicle from us, but we promise we give you so much more than that! Armed with a great big map and a visitor's guide, we offer you a closer look at what Maui means to us and how you can be a part of it in a meaningful way. We send you where you are needed most and guide you towards impactful experiences that hopefully resonate and stay with you for a long time. Camping is a great way to experience Maui and we believe we have a little something for everyone.

Discover our three thoughtfully assembled packages: the foundational Basecamp package for a simple rest and recharge; the Trailhead package, offering all the camping essentials, cooking equipment, and beach gear for a more comprehensive outdoor adventure; and the premium Summit package, perfect for special occasions and solo journeys, elevating your camping experience with enhanced comforts and cozy upgrades for the ultimate escape.

"This is the way to make the most of your visit to Maui! We had such a perfect time

and it wouldn’t have been possible without Sean and Cece" -Brooke Miller

All our vehicles are Nissan Xterra SUVs from 2009-2013, with automatic transmissions, bluetooth capabilities and rooftop bins for storage. Unlimited mileage is included in the price.

The fine print: Minimum age requirement is 21. You must either have personal auto-insurance valid in the US or purchase insurance for the duration of your rental. All international driver's licences are accepted in the state of Hawaii. A 300 USD refundable deposit will be held during the period of your rental and we have a minimum number of nights for certain packages. Campgrounds are not included in your rental and must be booked separately.

FAQ

  • Unlike the large commercial car rental agencies you find at the airport we are a small business with a small fleet. For this reason we ask our guests to purchase their own insurance to ensure they are fully protected during their trip.

In the United States you must have both Collision Damage ('CDW') and Supplemental Liability Insurance ('SLI') to be fully protected. This covers damage to our rental vehicle, damage to other people's vehicles and property and also bodily injury.

You can purchase insurance online for the duration of your rental. We have a couple of suggestions which we share with you when you book but you can do your own research to find the best price and coverage for you. Prices vary depending on your age and country of residence.

For US residents and visitors from North America your personal auto insurance is usually sufficient.

Some credit cards have CDW included as part of their travel insurance policy, however SLI is usually not. Remember you must make the booking/payment with the relevant credit card for the insurance to apply.

  • To rent a vehicle you must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid government-issued ID.

  • Per vehicle, the maximum number of guests are:

Basecamp: 2 max sleeping in the vehicle

Trailhead: 3 max when tent is included

Summit: 2 max due to amount of gear

  • There is a lot of conflicting information online about whether you can 'get away' with camping wherever you want on Maui. We are here to tell you that freedom camping is not an option, even with your fishing rod hanging out the back of your car.. Severe fines and penalties are issued for anyone found camping outside of a campsite or private property, and as a camping business we are naturally scrutinized and rightfully held accountable. We take this seriously and with due respect to Maui County regulations. We reserve the right to retrieve our vehicle and gear if we are notified of illegal camping.

The reason for these strict regulations is that we are left with too much trash and damage as a result of overcrowding, improvised camping solutions and misused public spaces.

We urge all our guests to plan their camping spots well in advance. There are plenty of options and we are here to put you in touch with those providers so we can take care of you and our island in the best way possible.
